Karnataka Tourism department has availed approval of youth and sports services department and Airpot Authority of India to use Jakkur Aerodrome for Heli-tourism. A Heliport will be constructed at Jakkur and will have helipads to enable take-off and landing of six helicopters at a time.
As said by Tourism Minister C P Yogeshwar, ‘Jakkur will be used for landing and take-off purposes. A circuit will be prepared for tourists to take helicopters to Goa, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala. The Heli-tourism services can be even used by VVIPs and for emergency services.’
In 2018 Thumby Aviation had started flying HeliTaxii services between the electronic city and Bangalore International Airport cutting down the commute time from 2 hours to 15 minutes. HeliTaxii continues to offer joy rides, emergency services and private charters.
