PES University – People’s Education Society University, Ring Road Campus (formerly PES Institute of Technology) is a private university in Bengaluru, India. It offers foundation courses and specializations in Engineering, Management, Law, and Life Sciences with bachelor’s, Masters or Ph.D. degrees. The college was established as PES University in 2013.
PESU RR was started as PESIT in 1988 and is managed by the People’s Education Society (PES). It is a 25-acre campus affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, and later became an autonomous college under VTU. The college was renamed PES University, Ring Road Campus in 2013.
PES University is a state-private university established in 2013 to promote and advance university education in various fields such as Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, Arts, Social Science, Computer Applications, Humanities, and Management. It has three campuses: Ring Road Campus, Electronic City Campus and Hanumantha Nagar Campus.
PESU admits 40% of its students to undergraduate courses based on their Karnataka CET ranks and 60% based on PESSAT. There is also a Management quota and lateral entry scheme for diploma holders. Postgraduate students are admitted based on GATE test scores or Post Graduate Karnataka CET scores. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Technology degree or Master of Technology degree, respectively.
PES University has two research centers: Crucible Of Research and Innovation (CORI) and the Centre for Intelligent Systems (CIS). CORI was inaugurated by Dr. C. N. R. Rao and focuses on multi-disciplinary research while CIS focuses on topics like Control Systems, Speech, Image and Signal Processing, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Low Power VLSI design. Selected students can also do internships in the PES Innovation Lab on campus.
PISAT is a 3-axis stabilized imaging nanosatellite weighing 5 kg that was successfully placed into polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO) by India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle in its thirty-seventh flight. It generates 13 watts of power, has an imaging camera for earth images with 80-meter resolution, and includes an On-Board Computer, Attitude Determination, and Control System, RF communication system with S-Band frequency, telemetry and telecommand.
PISAT, a nanosatellite from PES University, was shipped to the Sriharikota Range rocket launch center in September 2016. After passing performance and quality tests by an expert committee, it was formally handed over to the ISRO in April 2016. A team of 11 from PES University was at SHAR for pre-launch activities.
SindhuNetra (RSAT) is a three-axis stabilized nano satellite weighing 10 kg and measuring 12x12x12 in size. It was launched by ISRO’s PSLV-C51 on 28 February 2021 with support from DRDO and carries a Satellite-Based Automatic Identification System (SB-AIS) payload. This will help monitor ships on the high seas and provide information about their movement.
The university was ranked 83rd for engineering in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2021.
