My mother was admitted to Nikisa Dementia Village and Alzheimer’s Hospital on 4/5/2020 from her apartment where she was staying with a caregiver with signs of agitation and forgetfulness. She suffers from Alzheimer’s disease with mild cognitive impairment on a background of longstanding hypertension on treatment.
During her stay over the next 17 months she has been looked after extremely well by the Nikisa team ably led by Mr Subramanya and both my mother and all of our family are happy with how she has been looked after.
I have nothing but the greatest of admiration for all of the staff at Nikisa and have no hesitation in recommending this excellent institution.
It was with great trepidation that I had my mother admitted in Nikisa on the 20th of June 2021. She had been suffering from dementia which had been progressively getting worse. It was difficult to keep caregivers continuously and there were constant disruptions in our life. She had to have two care-givers as she was also totally bed-ridden and had to be lifted and put into her wheel-chair to take her anywhere. When we admitted her we were told that once the organisation’s care-givers had understood how they had to take care of her from her principal care-giver at home, no-one from the family should visit her for fifteen days. I felt like a mother who had left her child behind with strangers. It was an amazing surprise for me when I did go back to visit, she seemed to have totally adjusted to her new circumstances and she quite happily said bye to me. She seemed to be much better with every subsequent visit. Her cognitive abilities also seemed to be improving. They send the family little video clips to show us what her daily activities were. In the beginning I noticed that she had no interest in the puzzles and other games that they made her do but as time went on, she seemed to be more and more involved and interested in what she was doing. Above all, her personal care-giver, a young woman called Sridevi, had developed a deep bond with her. Amma never had a more affectionate caregiver in her life.
She passed away, a month short of her 99th birthday, early on the 1st of January after having stayed up happily to mark the arrival of the New Year. We are really grateful to the staff and administration of Nikisa for making the last months of her life happy and active. THANK YOU!!
