Mumbai is the most expensive city in India for foreign workers in terms of living expenses and accommodation costs, as per Mercer’s 2022 Cost of Living survey,

As per Mercer’s 2022 Cost of Living City Ranking, Hong Kong tops the list, followed by Zurich and Geneva.

In India, Mumbai (127) is the most expensive city for foreign employees, followed by New Delhi (155), Chennai (177), Bengaluru (178), and Hyderabad (192), according to the survey.

Pune (201) and Kolkata (203) are the least expensive Indian cities in the ranking.

The Cost of Living survey by Mercer was conducted in March 2022, and this year’s ranking compares the prices of more than 200 commodities, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment in 227 cities spread across five continents.

Four out of the 10 most expensive cities to live in for international assignees are located in Asia.

High rankings for many Asian cities were driven by inflation and strong currencies, the management consultancy said in its report.

Apart from this, the report also showed the cheapest places for foreign employees to live which included Turkey’s Ankara (227), Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan (226) and Dushanbe in Tajikistan (225).
